Offer attractive alternatives
Install several scratching posts in strategic locations, especially near areas where your cat likes to scratch. Sisal or cardboard scratching posts are often very popular.
Use natural repellents
Citrus or vinegar-based repellent sprays can deter cats from scratching furniture. Always test these products on a small area to avoid damaging the fabric.
Cover the sofa
Use scratch-resistant sofa covers or protectors. Thick blankets or special covers can also protect the fabric while providing comfort for your cat.
Positive reinforcement
Reward your cat every time he uses a scratching post instead of the couch. Treats or petting can encourage this positive behavior.
