Product Features
Cat-Prime: an essential complement for high-performance adhesives
Cat-Prime, a special polypropylene and polyethylene primer, is designed to optimize the adhesion of adhesives such as Cat-Lock-Stickers and Cat-Stand-Stickers. This product strengthens the bond between the surface and the adhesive, guaranteeing rapid and durable fixation, even on materials known to be difficult.
Main advantages:
- Reinforcement of adhesion: Improves the hold of adhesives on various surfaces, such as plastics, metals, wood and concrete.
- Application precision: The integrated pad makes it easy to treat small areas with a thin, even layer.
- Versatility: Suitable for a wide variety of substrates, even with smooth or slightly textured roughness.
Why use a primer?
A primer prepares the surface to receive an adhesive, paint or varnish by creating a uniform and clean support. It can also improve bond durability by neutralizing properties that could weaken the bond, such as too smooth texture or unreactive materials.
Thanks to its formula specially adapted to Catsafe environments, Cat-Prime meets the most rigorous requirements for reinforcing your installations.
Reserve the Cat-Prime application for Cat-Locks only.
Mode d'application
Cat-Prime: Optimize the adhesion of your Catsafe adhesives
Surface preparation: Make sure the surface is clean and dry. For contaminated surfaces (grease, dust), clean with a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water.
Use a clean, lint-free cloth to avoid residue.
- Activation of the stick: Press firmly on the black point of the capsule to release the liquid into the applicator pad. Wait a few moments to allow the liquid to soak into the pad.
- Application of the primer: Spread a thin uniform layer on the surface to be treated. Use a minimum amount to thoroughly cover the entire area. Let dry for approximately 1 minute at room temperature before applying the adhesive.
- Porous surfaces: If necessary, apply a second coat after the first has completely dried for better coverage and adhesion.
Precautions for Use:
Safety: Keep away from heat sources, flames, sparks and hot surfaces.
- Do not smoke during use.
- Avoid breathing vapors: wear a mask and protective gloves (recommended).
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Comply with current safety and environmental standards.
Responsibilities:
Users must follow recommendations and procedures specific to 3M products, in accordance with current standards and rules. Catsafe declines all responsibility in the event of non-compliance with these rules or improper use of products outside of its control.
Note: Cat-Prime is designed to improve the adhesion of Catsafe solutions while remaining easy to use, for a durable and secure result.
Compatible Kits
The Cat-Prime includes a stick in all packs and can be sold separately and used in addition if you deem it necessary.

How to use Cat-Prime?
Summary of the Cat-Prime user manual:
- Surface preparation:Clean the surface thoroughly using a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water.
Use a clean, lint-free cloth to ensure a clean, dry surface.
- Activation of the applicator pad: Crush the capsule firmly to release the liquid in the pad.
Wait a few seconds for the pad to soak in.
- Application of primer: Apply a thin, uniform layer to the surface to be bonded, covering the area well.
For porous surfaces, a second application may be necessary after the first has dried.
- Drying: Apply a thin, even layer to the surface to be glued, covering the area well.
For porous surfaces, a second application may be necessary after the first has dried.
- Precautions: Work away from flames or heat sources.
Avoid inhaling vapors and, if necessary, wear a mask and gloves.
- Final recommendation: Make sure the surface remains clean and uncontaminated after applying Cat-Prime before applying the adhesive.
Following these steps ensures optimal adhesion of adhesives to different materials.
Is Cat-Prime essential?
The Cat-Prime is not strictly essential in all installations, but it can be strongly recommended under certain conditions. Here are the cases where its use proves useful:
When is Cat-Prime needed?
- Difficult to adhere surfaces: Polypropylene, polyethylene or other non-porous materials where the adhesion of adhesive stickers may be limited.
Smooth or slightly textured surfaces, such as some plastics, metals or varnishes.
- Environmental conditions: Humid environments or those subject to significant temperature variations, which may reduce the initial effectiveness of the adhesive.
Long term installations where durability and security of adhesion are essential.
- Improvement of resistance: If the installation is subjected to significant tensions, such as those exerted by the Cat-Line ropes on the Cat-Lock.
To reduce the risk of premature detachment or strengthen adhesion on complex surfaces.
When can we do without it?
- On naturally adherent surfaces such as glass, certain woods, or well-cleaned metals, where adhesive may be sufficient.
- If the installation is temporary or if the voltage applied to the elements is low.
Conclusion
The Cat-Prime acts as an additional guarantee to secure and reinforce the adhesives, especially in complex or demanding conditions. Although it is not essential for all installations, its use is recommended when the quality of the substrate or environmental constraints are critical factors.
Can the system be used for other needs?
Cat-Prime can actually be used in other contexts due to its adhesive adhesion improving properties. Here are some examples of alternative uses:
- Fixings on difficult materials: The Cat-Prime is designed for polypropylene and polyethylene, two plastics known for their poor adhesion. It can be used in other projects requiring a strong attachment to similar materials, such as gardening equipment or plastic storage devices.
- Use in DIY: By reinforcing the adhesion of adhesives, it can be useful for attaching decorative elements, furniture glides or light panels to smooth or porous surfaces such as metal, wood or concrete.
- Marine applications: In the nautical world, the primer can be used to secure accessories with adhesives on boats, particularly on surfaces exposed to bad weather and humidity.
- Industrial equipment: It can be used in industrial applications to improve the hold of adhesives on complex or difficult surfaces, such as plastic equipment or metal parts.
- Use in the automotive sector: Cat-Prime can reinforce the adhesion of adhesives for applications on vehicles, such as attaching lightweight components or improving the sealing of joints.
Limitations and precautions:
Although versatile, Cat-Prime is optimized for specific Catsafe adhesives. Before using it for other applications, it is advisable to test on a small area or seek advice to ensure compatibility with your project.
